St Andrew’s Bastion
St. Andrew’s Bastion is a pentagonal bastion characterized by its asymmetrical design. Originally, it had two tiers, with the lower tier housing the Marsamxett Gate, though this was removed in the early 20th century. Beneath the bastion lies a small faussebraye. In 1838, Ponsonby’s Column was erected on the bastion, but unfortunately, it was struck by lightning and destroyed in 1864.
